Brightline Bulk Electric System (BES) Program

Central Maine Power (CMP) is launching a multi-year energy grid upgrade called Brightline Bulk Electric System (BES) program. This program will allow CMP to meet the growing needs of the communities it services and meet the energy demands of Maine’s economy.

Brightline (BES) will enable CMP to comply with new federal and state regulation. These requirements provide direction for future energy grid planning and investment. The result will be a more reliable grid that both supports growth and new energy sources.

Brightline (BES) is a series of substation improvements, transmission system enhancements, and necessary new facilities that will ensure continued safe and reliable electric service to CMP’s customers while integrating the need for new, renewable generation coming into the electric grid.
